How we source items

We source items from within our own collections and from library networks. Where possible we request electronic delivery.

We prioritise searching in the following order:

  1. DPI RIS Collections or other free sources
  2. Reciprocal Libraries we have negotiated with a number of academic and special libraries to share our resources for no fee
  3. Subito, a document delivery service of research libraries from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This is useful for hard to find articles, with fast electronic delivery.
  4. Australian and International Library Partners where we can order documents for a low fee.

If we can't find your item, we will contact you. We may also suggest ways of purchasing the item if it is more cost effective.

FAQ

How much does it cost?

We prioritise free or reciprocal networks to avoid charges, but when fees are required, RIS covers the cost.

Our membership to library networks grants us a reduced fee for articles. We pay:

  • € 6 / article via Subito
  • $21 / article via Library Partners

If you need to request more than thirty items, RIS may seek some contribution towards costs.

How long does it take?

Digital items can be sent within 48 hours.

Books will take longer due to postal delivery.

Due to copyright, some items can only be supplied in print.

For urgent requests, please submit a form and call to alert us.

Material borrowed from external libraries must be returned to RIS by the due date.
Any fines or penalties are the responsibility of the requestor.
